During this unit, learners build on work adding and subtracting 2- and 3-digit numbers, moving to 4-digit numbers. They will continue to develop their understanding of exchange, and will encounter calculations which require more than one exchange when adding and subtracting. The learner will also begin to develop their efficiency when subtracting by recognising the best method to use. Further development of estimating and checking builds on Year 3 work.
Year 4 Addition and Subtraction consists of:
- Parent/tutors guide
- Addition and Subtraction 1 – I can add and subtract 1s, 10s, 100s and 1000s.
- Addition and Subtraction 2 – I can add and subtract two, 4-digit numbers.
- Addition and Subtraction 3 – I can add and subtract two, 4-digit numbers with exchange.
- Addition and Subtraction 4 – I can; use and choose different methods of subtraction; and estimate and use the inverse to check answers.
