# Autumn unit information

Unit 1 Unit information Year 1 Place Value A Buy now During this unit the learner develops place value skills within 10 (i.e. using numbers up to 10). While they also look at numbers within 20 and within 100 during Year 1 learning, the initial focus within 10 then allows them to apply some of their skills in the next unit (Addition and Subtraction). Learners will practise identifying and representing numbers, counting to 10, finding one more and one less than a number, and reading and writing numbers in numerals and words. Year 2 Place Value Buy now In this unit the learning focuses on developing understanding of number, particularly place value, which will underpin a later understanding of calculations using the four operations. Counting plays a major role in this unit as learners develop their understanding of numbers up to at least 100. They will be able to compare numbers. Year 3 Place Value Buy now This unit builds on Year 2 Place Value work, and understanding of number. Specifically, it moves learning on from 1- and 2-digit numbers to 3-digit numbers as the learner starts to really understand the digits in numbers in the hundreds. This is further consolidated by work on finding 1, 10 and 100 more or less than a number, and more work on comparing numbers. Year 4 Place Value Buy now Having worked with 3-digit numbers and developed an understanding of finding 1, 10 and 100 more than a number during Year 3 Place Value work, this unit moves on to numbers up to 10,000. The learner will again encounter ordering and comparing numbers, and will further consolidate their understanding of partitioning. They will also be introduced to rounding numbers and negative numbers, as well meeting Roman numerals up to a value of 100. Year 5 Place Value Buy now In this unit the learning focuses on further development of understanding of number, ordering, comparing and rounding numbers up to 1,000,000. Further work with negative numbers and counting back through zero develops confidence, and the learner will begin to recognise and use Roman numerals up to 1,000. Year 6 Place Value Buy now In this final KS2 place value unit, learners develop their understanding of numbers up to at least 10,000,000. They also further develop their confidence when rounding numbers, and revisit negative numbers. As with all place value work, skills are applied through other units during Year 6. If the learner is struggling with any of the concepts in this unit, it is worth revisiting Year 5 and even Year 4 place value units.
